Monastery Chanting

Why is Gregorian chant called Gregorian, and how is it rooted in Jewish prayer? Explore the history of the beautiful melodies and the resonance of the ancient words in this edition of Sacred Sounds. AIB is privileged to bring you not only the evening prayer chant with the monks at the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers, Georgia but a private recital of chant, shared by the monastery’s schola cantorum, a small group of singers trained to lead the chant. AIB is also honored to speak with the abbot of the monastery, Father Augustine Myslinski, who reflects on the mission of the monastery, and the resonance of the chanting tradition as a way to deepen ones connection to the Divine.
